Computer Math students learn about computer applications in the real world. One way in which they do this is to study the range of movement of a robotic arm. They practice using the controls to make the arm pick up and manipulate a series of objects.

During the unit on robotics students also work with a programmable robot. They are to program a series of movements so that the robot will travel - unassisted - from one location in the building to another, then return. The task is especially difficult since they are only given one class period to work with the robot.

A few years ago several of the Computer Math students took a display to the Computer Expo held at Union County College. The display included information on programs they had written, key-pals some of the students had met during a unit on telecommunications, and the robotic arm and programmable robot.
