Nowadays, we are in the forefront of witnessing a battle of the generation. It seems like even in the education sector, this is so true because we are diversely composed of people coming from different generations that have a tremendous effect on how we do our things in school.
For example, most of our administrators and higher ups in the school board are composed of Gen X. They believe that it is important for anyone to pour in time in whatever they do. They believe that effort and hard work should be rewarded at all times. They believe that those are the necessary ingredients for anyone to succeed in any field.
Now we have the millenials. They are the ones who compose the majority of our teaching workforce. Often seen as lazy and entitled, they are opposites. They are the smartest ones who believe in efficiency and effectiveness combined. They are not lazy, they just want to do things as fast as they could without sacrificing quality so they have more time to do some of the things that really matter to them.
Lastly, we have the Gen Z. They are our students currently. They live in the technological world where almost everything can be accessed through the internet. They also have different apps to help them out with whatever they need. Since they lived most of their childhood in front of the television, you have to work harder to keep them engaged. It’s very important that you know how to mix the use of technology in your teaching methods so they can actually relate to the topic you are discussing.
Knowing all these factors, we are working hard to ensure that we can use the advantage of each generation in order to come up with a great strategy in our lessons. We work hard to translate our ideals in a way that each generation can contribute and understand the goals. No, we don’t force people to follow certain conventions. At the end of the day, results matter for us. So we support any way or technique that someone has to achieve their goals at the end.
